Esther Kang
Esther is a PhD Researcher and Teaching Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Design. Her work focuses on the relationship between design, affect, and biopolitics. Esther is also a member of CMU's Tech Solidarity Lab where she is conducting research on the future of essential work and workers.
Previously, Esther was a forerunner in participatory design and led research, strategy, and implementation efforts for 10+ years in multiple contexts, such as urban planning and civic technology. Examples of projects include equity-centered housing policies for the state of New York and transition planning for a White House Initiative under the Obama administration.
Esther also taught and advised the graduate students for 5+ years. Past teaching appointments include New York University (NYU), Pratt Institute, School of Visual Arts (SVA), and Art Center College of Design.
