Laura Splan
Laura Splan is a transdisciplinary artist working at the intersections of science, technology, and culture. Her research-driven projects connect hidden materialities of biotechnology through embodied interactions, tactile experiences, and sensory encounters. Her artworks have been commissioned by the CDC Foundation and the Bruges Triennial. Her work has been exhibited at the Museum of Arts & Design, Pioneer Works, and New York Hall of Science and is represented in the collections of the Thoma Art Foundation and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. Splan’s research and residencies often include collaborations with scientists and have been supported by the Simons Foundation and the National Endowment Digital Arts Fellowship at AS220 Industries. Splan has held teaching appointments at Stanford University and has been a studio practice advisor for interdisciplinary artists at San Francisco Art Institute, California College of Art, and Arts Council England. Her speaking engagements have been presented by the Brooklyn Museum, Frontiers of Science Institute, and University of Connecticut Humanities Institute. She is currently a NEW INC Artist-in-Residence at EY collaboratively researching the implications of virtual and mixed reality technologies on the physical world.
