Ana Bessie Ratner

The Other Almanac is a print publication that reimagines The Old Farmer’s Almanac with contemporary contributions from ecologists, activists, artists, poets, and others. Its inaugural edition was released in 2022 by Artist and plant enthusiast Ana Ratner.

Ana’s sculptural work spans various mediums and is inspired by furniture design, experimental tableware, and traditional craft. Her current projects include a series of spiked ceramic and concrete vessels inspired by a found teething toy, as well as dining objects for collaborative culinary events exploring ancestral memory, migration, and ecological transformation.

In 2017, Ana co-founded Herban Cura, an organization that brings ancestral earth-based knowledge into the urban environment. Ana teaches botanical workshops at schools, gardens, galleries, and museums. She is the founder of Little Broad Studio, a home goods and herbal shop. She currently co-runs The Krumville Schoolhouse, an educational and event space and Sister Divine’s Farm (and farmstand) in Krumville, NY.
