1. A new exhibition at Tate Gallery in London titled “Queer British Art: 1861-1967” features art from across Britain and beyond. Curator Clare Barlow says, “So much of this history has been lost or destroyed. I really hope this show will encourage more material to come out of the woodwork.” [artnet News]
2. Eve L. Ewing explains in the New York Times why authoritarians tend to cut the arts, saying, “we need the arts to be full human beings.” Featured is NEW INC’s own Alice Sheppard. [New York Times]
3. The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture opened their exhibition “Black Power!” with archival documentation of the Black Panther movement. The Times says it “broadens art as a term,” much like the movement did. [New York Times]
4. RIP, Twitter egg. The social media giant recently announced it would be retiring its default user avatar for a more neutral gray figure. Wired calls it an attempt to leave behind the egg’s “super-harassy reputation.” [Wired]

6. Looking for a new sneaker? Adidas announced they will begin production for the first mass produced 3D shoe, the Futurecraft 4D. “This is the holy grail,” an Adidas executive says. [FastCoDesign]
7. In a score for public art, 5Pointz graffiti artists are allowed to sue the developer who destroyed their murals in the iconic Queens location, under the Visual Artists Rights Act of 1990. [artnet News]
